Short service employee program: what it is and what it needs

A short service employee (SSE) program sets out how a company identifies, supervises and mentors workers who are new to the job or new to the company. Most programs treat a worker as short service for their first months in the role and set a cap on how many can work on one crew, assign each one an experienced mentor, and mark them so everyone on site knows, often with a green hard hat sticker. We sell Short Service Employee written programs for Alberta and Canada-wide practice as editable Word documents for $9 CAD each.

Updated

What an SSE program covers

  • Who counts as a short service employee, and for how long.
  • How many short service workers a crew may carry at once.
  • Mentoring: who supervises them and what the mentor checks.
  • How they are identified on site.
  • The orientation and competency checks they must complete before the designation comes off.
